A New App: The San Diego Essential Guide

December 29, 2010 | By | Reply More

If you’re looking for a great San Diego app for your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, my friend Alison DaRosa has just completed The San Diego Essential Guide for Sutro Media.

The inaugural edition of the app includes 177 entries and more than 2,000 photos. It’s got insider tips and money-saving suggestions including links to discount coupons. The app is easy to use; it can be sorted by category (kid friendly, nightlife, lodging, reliable eats, touristy, day trips etc), by cost, neighborhood and distance from the user’s present location.

There are 18 La Jolla entries — and more to come. Current La Jolla entries range from La Valencia Hotel, George’s (restaurant) and The Marine Room to Harry’s Coffee Shop, La Jolla Kayak, Surf Diva and the Gliderport to La Jolla Music Society, MCASD La Jolla, and the La Jolla Playhouse.

In a recent message, Alison added “I did a looong entry on La Jolla Beaches (from Blacks to Windansea) and included my favorite LJ shopping stop: Pomegranate.”

She would “love to know” what else you would like her to include on updated editions. Just leave your suggestions as comments to this post.

Alison is a native San Diegan and spent most of her career at the SD Union-Tribune – first covering the city, then as Travel Editor/Writer/Photographer.

“The bottom line is,” Alison aded, “I know San Diego – and know travel. On the app I show travelers (and locals) around my favorite city.”

The app costs $2.99 at the iTunes store. It’s downloadable to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Buyers get all updates free forever. http://sutromedia.com/apps/San_Diego_Essential_Guide

About the Author ()

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
