Holiday Activities at La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla

December 19, 2010 | By | Reply More

Lots of San Diego hotels get gussied up for the holidays, but none do it better than La Jolla’s La Valencia (Yes, the Hotel del is renowned for Christmas decorations, but it’s in Coronado – not San Diego.)

Holiday Activities at La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla:

I met a friend for tea in La Valencia’s lovely La Sala Lounge last week and enjoyed the decorated tree and profusion of poinsettias nearly as much as the ocean view framed by a huge picture window.

If you are visiting San Diego during the holidays, try to make time to at least take a look at La Valencia. This elegant hotel has been a landmark in our community since 1926. The traditional décor and heritage ambience, which are always charming, are really special at this time of year. The “La V” also makes a great retreat if you get caught in a shower while you are shopping in the village. While our weather is usually cooperative, it’s always a good idea between December and March to have a rainy day back-up plan.

Here are a few of La Valencia’s special holiday happenings:

Dec 20 – Dec 23, 2 – 4pm – HOLIDAY TEA in La Sala Lounge at La Valencia Hotel. A selection of teas will be served with traditional tea sandwiches, scones, and petit four. $35 per person. Reservations required.

About the Author ()

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
