La Jolla Wedding Flowers and More

Floral designer Paula Pryke is known for her wedding bouquets.

Designer Paula Pryke has arranged flowers for weddings from Seoul to Sydney, including some of the most romantic spots in Europe.

On Thursday, April 7 at 1:30pm, the London-based expert will share her knowledge, divulge insider tips, and create more than a dozen arrangements in a Meet the Masters program sponsored by The Village Garden Club of La Jolla. The event will take place in Sherwood Hall at the La Jolla branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, 700 Prospect Street.

Pryke is well known for her hand-tied bouquets that are popular with brides, as well as bridesmaids, and some of the floral arrangements she demonstrates would be appropriate at the wedding site or as centerpieces at a reception

San Diego’s great climate, beautiful scenery, and oceanfront venues make our community a popular choice for local and destination weddings, so it’s no surprise that reservations for this presentation are filling up fast.

Pryke has written more than a dozen books on floral design that have been translated into fourteen languages, including Hebrew and Japanese. They are used by brides, wedding planners, and party designers all over the world. At the April 7 event, she’ll be signing copies of her most recent release – Decorating With Flowers.

In addition to wedding flowers, Pryke will be showing the latest floral trends from London and Europe. She is known for her use of color and will demonstrate Vintage, Classic, and Contemporary designs.

Guests can also expect a bit of delicious name-dropping: Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Julia Roberts, Madonna, and Sting have all been clients. She also arranged flowers for the Clintons on a visit to Tony Blair and, more recently, for Michelle Obama. When Rod Stewart married Penny Lancaster, Pryke’s team traveled to Portofino to make the floral bouquets.

Reservations for this Meet the Masters event with Paula Pryke, including valet parking and a tea reception immediately following, are available from The Village Garden Club of La Jolla. It’s also possible to purchase a premium reservation that includes the above, plus a cocktail reception with the lively designer in a La Jolla home on Wednesday, April 6 at 5pm.

Everyone attending the evening reception will be entered in an opportunity drawing, and two lucky winners will be invited to the cruise ship Crystal Symphony in San Diego on Saturday, April 9, to attend a private flower arranging class, ship tour, and luncheon. Pryke has been a floral consultant for Crystal Cruises for over a year and will be hosting a special flower arranging trip around the Mediterranean in August.

About the Author ()

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
