New Hotel La Jolla Opens In San Diego

August 7, 2012 | By | Reply More

Hotel La Jolla in La Jolla Shores offers panoramic ocean views.

Hotel La Jolla is opening just in time for our great San Diego summer weather. Kimpton’s new property in La Jolla is nearing completion of its extensive $4 million renovation.

The 11-story hotel, located in La Jolla Shores, has been a construction zone for the past eight months. A new lobby, garden-level lounge, and fitness center were added and all other public spaces were re-designed. The 110 guest rooms and suites were remodeled. Even the driveway, now lit by fire pits, was reconfigured.

Since I live in the neighborhood, I’ve watched the process and am very excited about having a new restaurant and cozy place for a drink within walking distance.

“Hiatus,” the new lounge adjacent to the pool, is an open-air bar with fire pits reminiscent of those on nearby La Jolla Shores Beach. Cusp Dining & Drinks, located on the top floor of the hotel, will offer coastal Mediterranean cuisine from Chef Donald Lockhart. It will be served as small, shareable plates – along with a panoramic ocean view.

Construction is now 80% complete and the hotel is scheduled to open the last week in July. If you plan to be in La Jolla this summer, I suggest you waste no time in checking out the great deals in Hotel La Jolla’s introductory rates and packages.

Before you make a reservation, register for Kimpton’s “In Touch” program, which is free and offers additional benefits. Hotel La Jolla is pet-friendly, 100% non-smoking, offers
free Wi-Fi, and a hosted evening wine hour.

The new Hotel La Jolla is scheduled to open in late July

Rooms on the fifth floor and above have ocean views from the bedroom and the shower. Four suites offer a living room and two bathrooms. Ground floor rooms open onto a garden patio where kids can sleep in hammocks. (Think civilized camping.)

The chic décor of the hotel is drawn from natural elements, including a row of pine trees at the edge of the property. Seagrass wallpaper, muted colors, and casual furniture will create a relaxing atmosphere.

The hotel is ideally located at the gateway to La Jolla, with easy freeway access for trips to the San Diego Zoo and other local attractions. It’s just a 20-minute walk to the La Jolla Cove and the village. The short stroll to La Jolla Shores Beach passes more than a few kayak rental and surf shops, as well as several excellent restaurants.

I think when the new Hotel La Jolla opens in San Diego it will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and a great deal for savvy visitors.

About the Author ()

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
