Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa

July 19, 2013 | By | Reply More

Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa reflects San Diego’s hacienda heritage.

As you might guess from the name, Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa was designed to reflect Early California’s Hispanic beginnings. Terra cotta tile roofs top each of the creamy-white 3-story buildings that hold 221 guest rooms, two restaurants, and other attractive public spaces.

The gardens – planted with many drought-tolerant shrubs and perennials – also reflect Southern California’s unique heritage and climate. These sprawl over nearly 10 acres and are enhanced by bubbling fountains. The resulting ambience is definitely Early California, gracious, and spacious.

Estancia’s wonderful spa is popular with couples and girlfriend getaway guests.

Many couples enjoy staying at Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa because the AAA 4-Diamond property is quiet and out of the hubbub of La Jolla’s “village” area. The hotel is also great for girlfriend getaways – primarily because the spa offers a wide variety of treatments delivered by talented therapists. Most popular: the signature Hanakasumi Body Ritual (a Japanese bath ritual).

The location of Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa also contributes to its popularity. The resort is across the street from the University of California San Diego (UCSD), which makes it perfect for those participating in campus events or visiting offspring at college.

Another great thing to do at UCSD? Take the self-guided tour of the Stuart Collection – an internationally renowned collection of outdoor sculpture that can be found in various places around the university. Pick up a map at the information booth at any campus entrance or download the iPhone app from their Web site.

The pool at Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa is saltwater and heated to 82 degrees.

Other neighbors to visit within a short drive: the Torrey Pines Gliderport, Torrey Pines Golf Course, and Torrey Pines State Reserve.

Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa offers two good restaurants – Mustangs & Burros and El Adobe Restaurante – and is also a great spot for special occasions. The Trinitas Cellars Private Dining Room has a “classy hacienda” feel that makes it just right for private dinners and wedding events.  It’s not surprising that many couples choose a spot in the garden for their wedding ceremony.

As one guest wrote: The weekend and wedding festivities were wonderful.  Guests of the wedding still compliment us on the exceptional dinner and service during the reception, as well as the brunch at Mustangs & Burros, and of course the beautiful scenic grounds.

Enjoy! And sleep well.

Estancia offers a choice of rooms with a king bed or two double beds.

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
