La Jolla California – Why so happy?

According to Coastal Living Magazine, La Jolla California is “One of America’s Happiest Seaside Towns.” I’m not sure what their criteria is, but I certainly can’t disagree with them.

Even though I’ve lived here for most of my life, the sweeping view of the ocean from the top of Mt. Soledad or coming into town on La Jolla Parkway still takes my breath away. Likewise, I never tire of watching life going on all around me when I walk on La Jolla Shores Beach. Kids dig in the sand. Suited-up scuba divers emerge from the water. Flocks of shore birds move in unison. I see it all the time, but I still think it’s awesome – in the true sense of the word.

When I started writing La Jolla Travel Information, I said “I write this blog because it drives me nutty to see visitors walking up and down Prospect Street looking in shop windows thinking this is all La Jolla California has to offer.”

I might express that a bit differently today, but it’s still true. I absolutely want travelers to experience La Jolla in an authentic way. That might mean water sports to some. I might mean La Jolla Playhouse and La Jolla Music Society to others. And it means great food, wine, and craft beer to almost everyone.

Win a trip to La Jolla California

Thus, the Delicious La Jolla Foodie Getaway contest I’m currently hosting on this site. The lucky winner will “live like a local” in a La Jolla California vacation rental house, experience San Diego’s best farm-to-table food, and do something most locals haven’t done – enjoy the breathtaking view of the coast from a helicopter.

The winner will have a year to use the prize (or play Santa and gift it to someone who’s been very, very good). If you’ve already entered to win this trip, here’s a look at what’s waiting for you.

Now you see why Coastal Living said “Whoever planned heaven may have tried it out first in La Jolla.”

I’m also hosting a Romantic Getaway on a Beachfront Resort on our sister site, Authentic Luxury Travel. I hope you’ll click over there and enter that contest, too.

Cheers,

About the Author ()

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
