San Diego Food and Wine Event

September 19, 2012 | By | Reply More

“Celebrate the Craft” showcases California’s bounty of great food and wine.

“Celebrate the Craft” will take place at The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla on Sunday, September 30 from 11:30am to 3pm. This popular San Diego food and wine event, now in its 10th year, features the culinary offerings that are unique to our region and the state.

Throughout the day, cooking demonstrations will feature produce that thrives in Southern California’s Mediterranean climate. Participating La Jolla chefs include Jeff Jacksons (The Lodge at Torrey Pines), Trey Foshee (George’s California Modern), Jason Knibb (Nine-Ten), and Jesús González (Cups La Jolla).

Growers, vintners, and artisans from California’s best farms, bakeries, and wineries will also be on hand to share their skills and knowledge while guests sample gourmet fare against the delicious background of the Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean.

Our year-round growing season means that Southern Californians never lack fresh produce.

Participating vintners include Falkner Winery, Thornton Winery, and Palumbo Family Vineyards (all from Temecula); Robert Craig, Robert Biale, Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Paradigm Winery and Mi Sueno Winery (Napa); and Tablas Creek Vineyard (West Paso Robles).

Tickets to this San Diego food and wine event cost $75, but are included in overnight stay packages at The Lodge – which range from the Deluxe Signature Room Package (from $349) to the Deluxe Palisade Room Package overlooking the golf course and the ocean (from $449). A five-diamond resort, The Lodge  is an award-winning example of California Craftsman architecture surrounded by thoughtfully landscaped grounds.

A few tips if you plan to attend Celebrate the Craft: this is a walk around event, so feed that info into the equation when you’re choosing footwear, and it’s all outdoors – which means you’ll need to practice safe sun (hat, sunscreen, etc).

Having said that, this chic confab is a favorite of local foodies and those smart out-of-towners who plan a San Diego getaway around the event.

About the Author ()

I live in La Jolla and I'm a travel writer, so in addition to enjoying my home town's great weather, beautiful surroundings, and range of cultural and recreational options, I also see La Jolla - and the rest of San Diego - as a travel destination. And what I see sometimes drives me batty. People vacation in La Jolla, but don't take advantage of everything our community offers, so I decided to start this blog and provide insider advice for out-of-towners. Hey. I figure if I can write insider tips about exotic destinations on Authentic Luxury Travel, I ought to be able to lead readers off the beaten path that starts just outside my front door. In the process, I'm having fun revisiting my favorite places and discovering some new ones. Travel writers are naturally snoopy, and this blog is my excuse to have a good ol' sticky beak around my home town. I hope you find it helpful. If you are coming to La Jolla or another area of San Diego and would like my help in planning your trip, please read "Need Help Planning Your Trip" and then email me at ehansen298@aol.com.
