Don’t miss an opportunity to experience a High Tide Dinner
at The Marine Room overlooking La Jolla Shores Beach.
It’s summer – and La Jolla is a happening place. I was in the village this morning and was glad to see lots of visitors shopping, dining and generally having a great time. In the month since I wrote my last article on La Jolla summer events, I’ve realized that I omitted some important fun things to do.
July 18 – Urs “Le Chef” Baumann will teach a cooking class “Fun Summer Dining” at the La Jolla Community Center at 6 pm. No worries if you aren’t really into cooking. Many locals just enjoy a glass of wine, watch Urs do all the work, and then eat a delicious dinner. Call 858-459-0831 to save your place at this fun La Jolla summer event. The menu includes:
- Poached asparagus wrapped in prosciutto ham, sprinkled with salt and lemon juice
- Butter lettuce salad on a lime vinaigrette with grapefruit filets
- Drunken shrimp with a tarragon/honey/mustard sauce
- Summer flavored pearl couscous
- Medley of roasted summer vegetables
- “Marinated” watermelon balls with lime sorbet
July 18-22 – Don’t miss an opportunity to experience a High Tide Dinner at The Marine Room overlooking La Jolla Shores Beach. This is a truly unique opportunity to witness the phenomena of waves splashing against the picture windows of the restaurant while you dine on gourmet fare. High Tide Dinners are only offered a few times a year – and usually during the winter, so this is a rare La Jolla summer event. Click here for info on peak tide times or call 877-477-1641.
August, Thursday nights, 7:30 pm – Join locals and out-of-town visitors at the Athenaeum Music & Art Library’s film and wine series Flicks on the Bricks. Guests meet on the patio for screenings of classic cinema al fresco with wine pairings selected by Barbara Baxter of Planet Wine. The Athenaeum is located at 1008 Wall Street (at Girard Avenue). Guest must be 21 years or older to attend. If you’re on the fence about this event, watch this teaser video.
Here’s the schedule for this classic La Jolla summer event:
Aug 1 The Big Sleep (1946)
Aug. 8 Rear Window (1954)
Aug. 15 Cinema Paradiso (1989)
Aug. 22 The Big Easy (1986)
Enjoy!
